For as long as I can remember I always wanted to have trunks full of costumes to play dress up. Coming from a poor family that was a dream that would have to wait. It was not until a chance weekend in 2010 when I went to my first Renaissance festival and I was hooked. That day I bought my first outfit and every weekend the outfits and costumes started to grow.
I learned quickly to be historically accurate you had to either be able to shell out thousands of dollars or be a very experienced sewer. For me I was neither rich nor had the talent to sew. My Mother thank goodness had
patience and taught me to sew helping me make my first Steampunk jacket for a steampunk convention.
It was at that steampunk convention I learned you don't need thousands of dollars; and with a little of
ingenuity I was able to create costumes from thrift store finds, used dresses online like at EBAY, and recycling already made dresses into the creations and ensembles you see here. Not everything is made by yours truly but if you're looking for period correct pieces look no further.
My mother was very old school making everything from scratch, from patterns.
She definitely created a sewing monster when she taught me how to sew. Now I am her greatest fan
with what I call Upcycling. Recycling wedding dresses, brides maid, prom dresses, even tuxedos, trench coats, and finding inexpensive shirts and creating, Victorian or Civil war gowns. Making fairy or princess dresses.
Turning a trench coat into a pirate coat.
So with my family's support and much patience, especially traveling to shows to sell, and my friends who model for me and help by continuing to model clothing at fairs and festivals Monarchs is here to stay.
If you can dream it we can make it.
